A public lecture about the Minoan ideal, will take place at the Centenary Theatre of the University of Tasmania in Hobart, this Thursday 19 March at 6.00 pm by Dr Janice L. Crowley, entitled Man and Woman: The Minoan Ideal in Bronze Age Greece.
The high point of Minoan culture came at the time of the new palaces and became one of the styles widely endorsed by architects worldwide till the present day.
But what was their image of themselves? What did they aspire to? Who was their ideal man, their ideal woman?
Dr Crowley will attempt to explore these questions and discuss the Cretan civilisation that thrived on the Aegean island’s soil, some three thousand years ago spreading its influence widely into Greece and even the far East. The event is held with the auspice of the Australian Archaeological Institute in Athens.
