Sydney audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy eight documentaries from the recent 16th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival this July, as the Greek Film Society Sydney takes part in the Regional Events of the festival for the second year running.
For a number of years now, the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival has become a meeting place for Greek and overseas filmmakers and is considered one of the top documentary festivals in Europe. Every year the festival offers audiences in Thessaloniki examples of excellent documentary works from both domestic and international productions.
In a series of screenings throughout July, in an effort to keep up to date with contemporary filmmaking in Greece, the Greek Film Society Sydney will present to its Sydney audiences a strong line-up of eight documentaries that were screened at this year’s Thessaloniki Documentary Festival.
The thematic preoccupations of the selected films reflect topics of a social and political interest, solidarity and resistance movements in the crisis, contemporary migrant issues, personal and national identity stories, as well as subjects of historical interest, such as censorship during the Junta years or the execution of civilians in Kalavryta during World War II.
