The Setting Sun Film Festival is turning five and organisers say they are planning their biggest event yet.
One of the largest premier short film festivals in Melbourne, it screens a number of diverse programs over five days in April 2018 and includes awards in a range of categories including animation, short feature, doco, and comedy in a celebration of talented up-and-coming and established filmmakers from around Australia.
“The festival enjoys a lot of support and it is great to see it growing and thriving every year,” enthuses festival director Anna Bourozikas. Short film entries for 2018 are now open with films created from 1 December 2015 to 31 January 2018 eligible for submission.
All competition categories are Open, with short films required to be 15 minutes long, and they can be of any genre while being an interesting story that has the amusement, entertainment, informative and wow factor. Award-winning producer Sue Maslin is sponsoring the women’s-only Rouge Program for the third year and will donate $1,000 to the best film with a female director.
Aside from having the pleasure of seeing their film hit the screens of the art deco Sun Theatre in Yarraville, participating filmmakers will have the chance to win prizes. To celebrate their five-year milestone, judges will also pick one feature-length film to screen at the festival, with an audience Q & A with the director.
