What can you buy for $99 these days? Plenty, if you know where to look.

Last week California-based MIPS technologies announced they had partnered with Chinese CPU provider Ingenic Semiconductor to launch an Android tablet for $99. This is not a typo: A tablet for under $100. The Novo7, as it is known, is a 7 inch capacitive multi-touch tablet running the Android 4.0 operating system (also known as Ice Cream Sandwich which was reviewed in a previous Tech Talk edition). It includes dual 2-megapixel cameras on the front and rear, HDMI output, USB2.0 port and 4GB of memory (expandable via a microSD card).

With up to 25 hours battery life, an Ingenic 1GHz MIPS processor which includes 1080p video processing and OpenGLE2.0 capabilities, the product certainly packs a lot of pluck for the poultry price tag. Initially on sale in China, expect to see the product come Down Under sometime in 2012 along with both 8-inch and 9-inch versions.
