With cash-strapped Greece selling its islands at bargain-basement prices, Hollywood royalty Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reportedly have their hearts set on a heavenly Hellenic isle.

According to the US edition of OK! Magazine, the celeb couple are considering forking out a modest $4.1m for the 17 hectare island of Gaia, located in the Echinades group of the Ionian sea. The island, near Kefalonia, is being advertised by Private Islands Online and has already received approval for the construction of six villas.

Touted as the perfect millionaire’s playground, Gaia is promoted as “an idyllic paradise surrounded by calm crystal clear waters”.

Pitt and Jolie recently sold their $6.5 million New Orleans property which they acquired after Hurricane Katrina and are now reported to be looking to invest.
“Angie fell in love with it,” a source told OK! Magazine. “It will need development, but at that price, they’ll have no problem building the vacation home of their dreams [and] the kids would finally be able to run around freely without worrying about paparazzi.”

In Greek mythology, Gaia was the personification of the great mother of all, the primal Greek Mother Goddess, creator and giver of birth to the earth and all the universe.
