Partygoers saw a young man collapse and die of stab wounds after a brawl at a suburban Brisbane nightclub, a court has heard.

Callum Joseph Key, 21, is on trial at Brisbane's Supreme Court for the death of Phillip Halipilias, 20, at the Alexandra Hills Hotel in May 2, 2009.

The court heard that Mr Keys told police he meant to cut Mr Hallipilias's arm after a fight broke out on the dance floor, but the knife "collided" with his victim's chest in the scuffle. Mr Keys has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and not guilty to murder.
Witnesses took the stand and recounted how a fight broke out and they saw Mr Halipilias face down on the floor while a big pool of blood formed around him.

Meanwhile, Mr Keys had allegedly ran away.
Mr Keys' friend Daniel Dwyer, 21, who was involved in the initial fight that started before the stabbing, said Mr Keys had not mentioned the incident when they spoke on the phone later that night. Mr Dwyer also claimed Mr Keys said he did not do anything when asked about what happened at the nightclub.
Crown prosecutor Glen Cash said during his opening address on Monday the jury had to decide whether Mr Keys intended to kill or cause grievous bodily harm to Mr Halipilias.

The trial continues before acting Justice Kerry O'Brien.
