People in need in our community have increased, says a representative of welfare associations in Melbourne.

Edmondos Kaderoglou, office manager, Greek Welfare Centre Victoria, says that he has noticed a “slight increase” in the last two years.

“We are assisting ex-patriots who have returned from Greece given the financial situation and we assist Greeks as well who have migrated,” Mr Kaderoglou tells Neos Kosmos.

The Greek Welfare Centre Victoria – which works under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia – says it’s impossible to put a number on how many people in our community received donations, as many are helped through the church directly. But he adds that the number of people assisted through this Easter appeal would be in the hundreds.

For nearly 20 years, the centre has been assisting members of the Greek Australian community in need through their appeals. They rely on donations by members of the community.

The Greek Welfare Centre of Victoria would like to extend a big thank you to the parishioners and public who contributed with their generosity to the food appeal.
