Athens pharmacies, which for more than a month have been refusing to provide medicines on credit to customers due to social security funds failing to settle their debts, are to resume normal service as of Sunday.
The pharmacists reached their decision on Thursday after the National Organisation for Healthcare Provision (EOPYY), which accounts for almost all of Greece's healthcare providers, announced that it would pay the 127 million euros that it owes pharmacists for prescriptions filled out in April.
The Health Ministry is said to have given guarantees that the pharmacists will receive their money by July 5.
The issue of debts racked up by social security funds before EOPYY was formed earlier this year has yet to be settled.
