The ‘voice of resistance’ during the Greek military junta of the late ’60s, Maria Farantouris is teaming up with saxophonist Charles Lloyd to perform in the unmissable event The Greek Project, presented by the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and The Greek Centre for Contemporary Culture.

Farantouri’s voice has been described as “a present from the gods of Olympus”. And over the past half century, saxophonist Lloyd has charted a remarkable trajectory as one of the most influential and inventive musicians in jazz history.

This critically-acclaimed project – also featuring lyra master Socratis Sinopoulos and pianist Takis Farazis – explores the subtle connections between jazz and traditional Greek music to create hauntingly beautiful new sounds.

The Greek Project will be held on Sunday 1 June at 7.30 pm at the Melbourne Town HAll, 100 Swanston Street, Melbourne. Tickets are priced at A res. $109/$101 · B res. $99/$91 · C res. $69/$61
