It’s the question some of us will be pondering this season.

I’m not sure why, but when I see a shoe balancing on a heel made of luscious brown wood, I just melt. I think I just have a thing for wood full stop.

What springs to mind when you think of a pair of clogs?

Does it conjure images of a blonde, buxom wench in wooden shoes trotting through a field of tulips while smoking a joint?

Perhaps it makes you think of those days of disco, where everyone wore flares, men loved jewellery and my dad had an afro.

Regardless of the memories or thoughts they inspire, the question remains – should we be wearing clogs this Spring?

To be honest, I’m not entirely sure.

For me, clogs hold some kind of appeal.

I think it’s the way they remind me of the girls in the Archie comics I read as a child.

They bring to mind images of long wavy hair, wide pants, pussy-bow blouses and big glasses.

My mum had a huge collection of Cosmo magazines that she had amassed over the years and I used to pore over them when I was younger, totally mesmerised by the colourful illustrations.

Also, I have a serious weakness for wooden heels.

I adore exposed timber in houses; I know it’s not very trendy, but I love those rooms that are panelled entirely of wood and look like a sauna or ski chalet.

But enough gushing, clogs were on the catwalks of Europe months ago and they’ve finally made their way to our shores and have set about invading stores.

I know many people who consider them to be hideous, and utter fashion abominations. The heels are dangerously high and I wonder if anyone will be able to walk in them.

Will we see an increase in ankle injuries over the next few months?
Along with being entirely impractical, they’re also kind of ugly.

All that leather, studding and wood makes for quite an industrial-looking shoe.

I am especially not a fan of the clog sandal worn with socks which seems to be one of the key looks that Sportsgirl is flogging this season.

However, ugliness and impracticality have never stood in the way of a trend and I predict we will see many a clog-footed filly at the races this year.

To be honest, there’s a very high chance I will purchase a pair myself.

I certainly won’t be wearing them with socks and I won’t be walking far in them.

In fact, I may not even wear them at all, I’ll just admire their lovely wooden heels.
