Greece incorporates Genocide education
Professional development seminars are being created for educators in Greece on the Jewish Holocaust announced the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs

Professional development seminars are being created for educators in Greece on the Jewish Holocaust announced the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, with the hope the program will be expanded to incorporate the Hellenic, Armenian and Assyrian Genocides, events that directly impacted the country in the 20th century.
The project is a joint initiative of the General Secretariat for Youth in cooperation with the General Secretariat for Religious Affairs and the Jewish Museum of Hellas.
It is a series of seminars aimed at educators from primary and secondary education, with the purpose of raising awareness amongst educators and students around the issue of state violence, as well as the mobilisation of young citizens for the safeguarding of peace and solidarity amongst peoples.
The seminars are scheduled to commence in Autumn 2012 and the cities where they will be conducted have been selected based on the existence of a Jewish community and the possibility of the participation of survivors of the Holocaust. The first cities where the seminars will be held are Volos and Ioannina.
The AHC (NSW) welcomes this initiative by the Hellenic Ministry for Education and Religious Affairs, and offers its assistance in expanding the programme to educate teachers and students alike about the impacts genocide has had on Hellas through the 20th century.
