An exhibition at the Greek embassy in Canberra to honour Greece’s Independence Day will capture the look of Hellenic women through time, the work of artist Dr Simonis Zafiropoulos.

The photo gallery, entitled ‘Greek Women Through Time’ celebrates the course of Hellenism from antiquity to the present day. It shows women through a schematic life cycle – birth, marriage, every day life, employment, social life and death. The work gives you a chance to compare the past to modern times. The aesthetics of classical antiquity and simplicity of earlier years, comprising a modest and unpretentious manner, an ethos that only Greek woman could embody the personality and natural beauty of.

The exhibition is curated by Dr Zafiropoulos, who has worked on a number of exhibitions at the National Gallery of Washington, Cooper Hewitt Museum in New York and the Benaki Museum in Athens. She was the Cultural Consultant for Greece in the General Consulate of New York. Apart from this photographic book, Dr Zafiropoulos also has published: Greece in Poetry; Greece and the Sea; and From Homer to Elitis.
