Images of time
A concert in celebration of the cultural influence of George Dalaras
George Dalaras.
Legendary Greek singer songwriter George Dalaras will be celebrated in the Greek concert, Images of Time. Dalaras's music captured an essence and time of Greece that many artists have struggled to emulate. His songs are distinct in covering the pathos, beauty and complexity of the Greek psyche as he sings of historical pain and anguish, and moral and social issues of the day, along with personal searching.
Fortis from St Timothy's Foundation told Neos Kosmos that Dalaras's music was always going to be showcased due to his cultural background. "One of things the St Timothy Foundation's board decided to do at the beginning of the year was to run a cultural concert. One of the board members felt that George Dalaras was the right choice as he was a traditional Greek artist writing about Greek life. He isn't what you will call a pop artist but the songs he writes about Greece and the way he felt about Greece was the cutlural choice as an artist who represents Greece," Fortis said.
The two-hour musical journey - a unique experience for all in Perth - is not to be missed. Dalaras's songs will be performed by Australian artists, many with acclaimed professional national and international reputations. There will be over 35 songs in total performed in the show.
The music will be arranged and directed by Andrew Koikas. Koikas was born in Greece and his parents migrated to Australia when was two-years-old. He started learning the piano accordian at seven and then classical piano. This began an illustrious career in music including performing at various Greek festivals in Australia and performing on Pasxalis Terzis's album To Etero Sou Imisi.
The concert will raise funds for the St Timothy Foundation, specifically the project "Assisting our aged". Images of Time takes place on Saturday 18 June,7.30 pm, at the Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre, Elliot Road. Karrinyul. Ticket prices are $100.00.
