The dashing John Cassavetes was one of the most radical innovators in modern
American cinema.
From his earliest film, Shadows (1959), until his death in
1989, Cassavetes established a powerful anti-mainstream cinematic tradition,
which antagonised the dominant Hollywood establishment on many occasions.
Dr
Vrasidas Karalis from the University of Sydney will be speaking about John
Cassavetes and the outsider as cultural hero, exploring the biography and career
of the obscure Greek-American who took risks with his art and defined the
parameters of cinematic experience.
