Babis Makridis' film L will establish two historic claims: it is the director's first feature film and will also make him the first Greek to enter the Sundance Film Festival.
The script was co-written by Makridis alongside Efthymis Fillipou, who has had recent success with Alps and Dogtooth, both co-written with filmmaker George Lanthimos Alps won the 2011 Best Script award in Venice. L's central storyline revolves around a 40-year-old man who lives in his car. The man, separated from his wife and childen - who subsequently live in another car - meet up in parking lots to spend time together. His job is delivering honey to a narcoleptic man, but when he begins delivering the honey late, his driving skills are questioned and he gets fired. From this point on, his life is changes forever. He dumps his life in his car and joins a rogue motorcycle crew.
The central character is played by Aris Servetalis, with Makis Papadimitriou, Eleftherios Matthaios, Nota Tserniafski, Stavros Raptis, Thanassis Dimou, Christoforos Skamnakis and Yannis Bostantzoglou also starring.
The film will premiere at the 28th Sundance Film Festival from January 19 to 29.
