The General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad (GGAE), has organised in Athens, from July 29 to August 11 2014, a ‘Meeting of 50 Greek Diaspora Youth’, aged 15-17 years old, from all five continents.
The aim of the program is to enhance the Greek identity of the participants, to promote their acquaintance with modern day Greece, and to strengthen the ties with their country of origin.
The program also aims to develop ties of friendship between young Greek diaspora youth from different countries and to reward students with strong academic performances who take an active interest in the Greek language, history and culture.
Amongst others the program includes visits to archaeological sites and museums and sightseeing excursions to: Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Delphi – Galaxeidi, Nafpaktos, Nafplion, Epidavros, Mycenae, Cape Sounion, Aegina-Temple of Aphaia and Sparta-Mystras-Githeio.
Furthermore, it includes visits to the Presidential Mansion and the Greek Parliament, informative seminars, teaching of traditional dances and songs, and participation in cultural events and activities.
In order to be able to apply for this program at least one of the parents of the applicants must be of Greek origin. Also, the applicants have to be 15-17 year old students, with a strong academic record and a knowledge of the Greek language, history and culture. The parents must not be employees of the Greek state abroad.
The states of Victoria and Tasmania have been allocated four places for this initiative of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad.
