When your YouTube channel is the most popular in Greece, you know you’re on to something. When you somehow manage to complete close to 700 performances in almost eight years, you know that ‘something’ is special.

Vegas is a group that has surprised everyone with its success and creativity since its formation in 2008. The first self-titled album was released in 2009 and produced two hits. Their second offering, ‘Season 2’, achieved gold sales whilst their latest, ‘The Story So Far’, was released during the summer of 2012 and included their biggest hit thus far – Pio Psila. This song achieved the status of most-played song on Greek radio during 2012, while it also reached 20 million views on YouTube, making it the second most viewed Greek video clip ever.

With such an impressive background, it is no wonder that Vegas will be coming our way on tour to Sydney and Adelaide this September.

Vegas’ urban meets hip hop style of music is indicative of where modern Greek music has evolved toward in the last decade, a style that was a late bloomer to Greece more than a decade after it took hold in America. As it stands, this style has seen Vegas take the mantle of biggest group in Greece today. Fresh from a tour to the US, the sound of urban/hip hop and an energetic performance will have local Greek fans dancing all night.

The promoter behind the tour, DJ Krazy Kon of Meraki TV, is no stranger to international performing, having also had recent visits to the US. Putting aside work on his latest record, Kon told Neos Kosmos he is “proud to be associated with the tour of Vegas”. He knows this style of music is one that will be a highlight for music fans.

One of the unique aspects of Vegas that has helped gain attention is that lead singer ZeRaw was originally born in Zimbabwe. His vocal and dynamic presence has enabled comparisons with the Black Eyed Peas. ZeRaw is joined by the talented Melina Makris, a graduate of the prestigious National Conservatory of Music and the driver behind the music. DJ Airth, who had met his Zimbabwean friend in Piraeus, helped form the band OiTang-Ram in the late 1990s.

For anyone who might regularly listen to Greek music, you will be familiar with top 10 hits Irthe i stigmi and Mi Stamatas which became successful both in Greece and Cyprus, the English language song Mad About You with Tomer G, Fili which went to the top of the charts, Gia Sena and Panta Kalokairi.

The group have also won a swag of awards at the Mad TV Music Awards in Greece and Cyprus.

There is no doubt that the tour will be one that people talk about for years to come. The energy and vibe of our very own Black Eyed Peas will be hard to forget.

Vegas will appear in Adelaide on Friday 18 September at Apple Bar and in Sydney Saturday 19 September at central Live Tickets/info: 0418 451 481
