Passengers began using the new metro stations at Peristeri and Anthoupoli in western Athens for the first time this weekend.

The opening of the Line 2 stations means that commuters will be able to travel from Anthoupoli to Syntagma in central Athens in just over 10 minutes. It is expected that the two stations will be used by up to 60,000 passengers a day.

While opening the stations on Friday, Development Minister Costis Hatzidakis said the extension of Line 2 toward the southern suburb of Elliniko will be completed in July, when four new stations (Ilioupoli, Alimos, Argyroupoli and Elliniko) will open.

A new station on Line 3 is due to open at Haidari, southwestern Athens, in the autumn. It will be called Aghia Marina. Source: Kathimerini
