Alphington Grammar officially opened its new primary wing last Friday.

The Years 3 and 4 rooms were designed by award winning Hayball Architects to maximise the modern learning spaces and enhance the educational opportunities of younger children.

"This striking building represents a new era in Primary School facilities at Alphington where classrooms are flexible learning areas to best complement Teaching and Learning programs," a representative from the school said.

The project, initially a Federal Government Building for the Education Revolution Project, was additionally funded by private donors and expanded to also build a duplicate floor of classrooms for students in Years 5 and 6, resulting in a comprehensive facility for all students in Years 3 to 6.

Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou, representing, Federal Member for Batman Martin Ferguson AO officially opened the "new era in Primary School facilities". Representatives from Alphington Grammar said they were delighted to welcome Ms Vamvakinou as the official MP representative, as she has been a longstanding Alphington parent and prominent supporter of multiculturalism and the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria.

Vamvakinou acknowledged the importance of the Federal Government investing in the future for quality education facilities to assist children in striving ahead. Other guests at the opening included Victorian member for Northern Metropolitan region Jenny Mikakos MP, School Chairman and GOCMV President Bill Papastergiadis, School Benefactor Nick Andrianakos, and Principal Mike Smith.

Amidst a crowd of over 60 guests from the school and Greek community Mr Papastergiadis and Mr Smith both acknowledged the significance of the BER Federal Government funding of $2 million and explained that this project was completed on budget and on time by the builders and capably managed by the School Business Manager, Manuel Pappos.
