SBS ups coverage of Eurovision 2009
As Eurovision fever hits boiling point, Australian broadcasters SBS are gearing up to provide extra-special coverage of Eurovision for Aussie viewers.
The network has promised to improve its coverage of the much revered song contest this year after traditionally providing the BBC style broadcast for years.
The typical annual method of commentary aired on SBS has involved hilarious commentary from British host Terry Wogan whose sarcasm has left many in stitches for the days after the contest has finished.
However 2009 will see English television personality Graham Norton take over from Wogan.
This year, SBS is mixing things up by sending its own team of commentators to Moscow including self-confessed “veteran fan” of Eurovision Julia Zemiro alongside Sam Pang.
Australian audiences will be able to view all 25 finalist presentations including 37 performances in the two semi-finals plus behind-the-scenes preparations from backstage dressing rooms.
Zemiro and Pang will share their firsthand Eurovision experiences with SBS viewers with a “less is more” approach, allowing for the music to remain the key focus of the event.
The famous and much anticipated “Postcards” will be analysed by the duo in line with other European broadcasters, and in order to help viewers gain the full Russian experience, extra video packages will also be screened. Eurovision 2009 - Australia is waiting with bated breath.
