Young Greek star of 'Packed to the Rafters' at the Logies
The TV Week Logie Awards aired last week to an abundant Australian audience from all over the nation.
Undoubtedly, the most popular winners of the night were the cast and crew of Seven Network’s new comedic drama series Packed to the Rafters.
Among the cast of the new hit show is George Houvardas, a young Greek Australian actor who was nominated for Most Popular New Male Talent.
Packed to the Rafters focuses on a typical Aussie family unit facing a number of lifestyle and work pressures.
As well as tackling serious social issues at times, the show encapsulates a combination of light-hearted comedy with dramatic moments.
Houvardas unfortunately did not take home the gong he was nominated for, although his television series most definitely did not go home empty handed after winning six of its 11 nominations.
Houvardas’ role as Nick “Carbo” Karadonis in Packed to the Rafters is his first television gig.
He auditioned for the part straight out of college, “It was my very first audition and I got the part. I’m the least experienced of the cast, so I feel extremely privileged and lucky to be working with such an amazing and talented group of people.”
Much like his on-screen persona, Houvardas is of Greek heritage.
He is the middle son of three boys and in his spare time he helps his parents who run two restaurants and a function centre in Sydney.
“We’re all natural entertainers,” Houvardas says of his family. “There are no actors in the family but Dad often plays MC at weddings and the rest of us are all pretty outgoing. We’re not a shy family that’s for sure!”
The seond season of Packed to the Rafters is currently in production and will go to air in the second half of the year.
