Multiculturalism in Australia took a front seat at the launch of the Federal Parliamentary Friends of Multiculturalism launch at the University of Sydney last week.
Labor Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou and Liberal Member Russell Broadbent said as the groups co-convenors they were thrilled with the groups success and widespread support since its inception on March 24, 2011.
Highlights of the evening included: a rendition of Cantonese opera by president of the Spring Glory Singers Rita Ho; a photographic exhibition of Multicultural Australia by Louise Whelan; and Moriah College students talking about the origin of their names as a reflection of Australia's multicultural community and personal histories.
The Federal Parliamentary Friends of Multiculturalism plans to host satellite events in all of Australia's states and territories.
