Olympic put up valiant fight against White City

Adelaide Olympic FC played host to White City last Saturday in Adelaide. After an excellent result on Monday which saw Olympic hold off a spirited Para Hills to win 1 nil away, the Olympic faithful would of been expecting another three points at home against White City.

Olympic almost started as it did Easter Monday with a Steven Kidd free kick in the 3rd minute expertly put to the back post for an oncoming George Agalidis to completely miss the ball.

Only six minutes later, Xhoel Gjomakaj beat his marker in Olympics attacking third and had Prokopi Loizides and new signing Srjan Jovanovic to cross to in the 6 yard area but he poorly delivered from the right side to see his ball go straight into the arms of the White City keeper.

From here on though, White City had the best two chances of the half and should of been ahead on 29 minutes when a mix up in the middle of the park allowed them to break and a through ball from Nick Mavromatis caught the Olympic defence stranded and with only the keeper to beat, young Gabrialessi made an absolute mess of his golden opportunity and impatiently hit the outside of the post.

If that wasn't a good enough chance gone begging, a diabolical decision to award Gabrialessi another shot on goal was presented on the stroke of half time when Olympic captain and keeper Matty Milosevic was judged to have brought down the young striker when he clearly won the ball without touching him.

Nevertheless, the penalty was awarded and justice rightly served as Olympics captain made up for his unfortunate punishment by brilliantly saving Gabrialessi's spot kick and keeping the score at nil all going into the break.

In a see-sawing second half which saw an entertaining end to end game with no real clear cut chances, it was former A-League striker Lloyd Owusu who was savvy enough to get goal side of his defender and tap in the only goal of the game in the 61st minute after some nice build up play down White City's right saw a lovely low cross with pace beat six players in the box only to be met by a half outstretched Owusu after he did well to get in front of his marker and tap the ball in the net for a one nil White City victory which leaves both teams on two wins and two losses respectively after the first four rounds of the FFSA Premier League.
