Members of the Greek Australian community who are overseas can still vote in the upcoming Federal Election, the Australian Electoral Commission has said. To do so, you must be enrolled to vote.
There are a number of ways you can vote overseas. You can vote in person at an overseas voting centre. They will be found at most Australian Embassies, Consulates and High Commissions around the world.
Pre-poll (in person) voting for the 2013 election will operate at overseas voting centres from Monday 26 August. Check with your nearest overseas voting centre to find out what times they will open for voting.
The AEC will also have early voting centres set up at some Australian airports before election day so you will be able to vote before you leave the country. Details of these centres will be available on the AEC website closer to the federal election.
If you are travelling overseas for a short period of time and prefer to vote by post for this election, you can apply online. Your postal vote will be sent to your nominated postal address once ballot papers are available.
If you will be out of Australia for a longer period, you may be eligible to register as an eligible overseas elector. Eligible overseas electors will be given the option of registering as a general postal voter which means they will automatically receive a postal vote in the mail for each election or referendum.
If you are unable to vote you should complete and submit an Overseas Notification form, also found on the AEC website. Fines will not be issued to those who do not vote but can prove they are overseas.
You can apply online for a postal vote so your voting papers are sent to your overseas address for you to complete and mail back to the AEC but you can not vote online.
