Greek-born runner Magda Karimali-Poulos has gone one better than her second place win last year, taking out the women’s title in Perth’s 41st Chevron City to Surf Marathon.

Karimali-Poulos was the first to cross the finish line in City Beach with a time of 2:58:48.

“I had some problems in the last couple of weeks with a sore back, so I am very pleased with that win,” she said following the race.

Not too far behind the Sydney-based runner was Nera Jareb with a time of 3:01:36, followed by Rolenda Georgie in third place.

Jareb said she was not surprised by Karimali-Poulos’ win, stating that “Magda is very experienced. If I chased and fought to catch her I knew she would just fight back”.

In the men’s category, Japanese runner Yuki Kawauchi defended his title for the second consecutive year, with a time of 2:16:23.

The Chevron City to Surf Marathon takes place annually, commencing at Saint George’s Terrace and hosts close to 40,000 participants.
