The most famous trial in history, revived through the timeless work of Plato, came to life through Emmy Award Winning actor Yannis Simonides on Sunday 16 March at the Factory Theatre.

Following its huge success throughout the world, Socrates Now received wildly enthusiastic reviews and the reasons for this were evident at Sunday’s performance. Close to 400 people were privy to the outstanding performance by Simonides to which they responded to with a standing ovation.

The performance was followed by an open discussion with the audience about the application of Socratic thought and action in the Greek and global crisis.
In the Apology, Socrates defends himself against politically motivated accusations of atheism and of corruption of the young Athenians. We try to revive the eccentric but attractive personality of Socrates with simplicity, and humour, creating a deeply social and political work. As he faces the death penalty, we discover his humour, intelligence, and his perceptions of virtue, justice, responsibility of the state and the citizen and dedication to Greece.
