Radio and TV Journalist and author Phil Kafcaloudes’ homage to his grandmother Someone Else’s War will be launched Saturday 29 June in Melbourne as part of the Greek Australian Cultural League and presented by the Antipodes Festival.

The book will be launched by media personality George Donikian and this will be the Greek edition launch of the book.

Someone Else’s War tells a story that has been in the author’s ears for most of his life.

“When I was little, my mum and aunties used to tell me stories of their mother, Olga. One day I was in Adelaide with my wife who was acting in a musical. I was telling some of the others about Olga, and one of the actors, a Greek woman said the story should be a tele-movie or a film. On that day, as they were playing their matinee, I went to Rundle mall and started writing. Since that day I have felt Olga on my shoulder telling me what happened to her, inspiring me and berating me if I go too far. The research for this novel took me to Greece (three times) and to the war records office for the British government.”

The English language book was launched in 2012 (reprinted after three months) and Psichogios Publications (Athens) published the book in late 2012 in the Greek language for the European market, changing the name to “Olga’s War” which translates much easier into Greek.

Phil is a radio and TV journalist, and presents the premier breakfast program on the ABC’s international arm, Radio Australia.

Someone Else’s War, the Greek edition will be launched at Steps Gallery, 62 Lygon Street,Carlton, Victoria, 6:30 pm Saturday 29 June.
