It was a disappointing performance last weekend by the Hawthorn Spartans who went down to Therry Penola by 27 points in what was a low scoring scrappy game of football. More disappointing was that the Spartans kept Therry Penola to one goal for the second half while only scoring 4 behinds themselves.
After two loses in three weeks the Hawthorn Spartans were dislodged from the top of the ladder to second spot. The loss has knocked off much of the team’s confidence and it doesn’t look good with the finals looming in three weeks from now, unless the Spartans find that scintillating form they had earlier this year, when they were freely scoring cricket type numbers!
Final Score: Therry Penola: 6.9.45 def. HAFC: 1.12.18
Goal kickers: C.Terzoglou (1) Best Players A.Salipas, A.Boocock, J.Farah, T.Demetriou, J.Rieve, C.Armatas
Saturday’s game is Hawthorn’s final match for the season and it’s their last opportunity to find their mojo and get back into premiership winning form. Starting at 9.20am at Kevin Bartlett Reserve (Mel Ref 59 B1) the Spartans play the Richmond Central Snakes at home in what may prove to be a tougher contest than previously thought.
