The students of our community showed their talent and artistic flair through their cinematic entries as part of the 4th Greek Student Film Festival held in Melbourne and Sydney last Saturday.
Returning for it’s fourth year, submissions by the students included short fiction, animation and documentary film with the theme ‘Greece is Light’ which was open to the interpretation and creativity of the students and teachers involved.
Close to 40 submissions were received from all over Australia and were judged by an independent committee based in Sydney and Melbourne and commissioned by the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne Education office. The submissions were screened and winners announced in each of the four categories. Place winners in each category were awarded $400 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place. Congratulations to the following winners:
Primary school students (years 5-6): First place Sans Souci PS (NSW) with Ελλάδα Σημαίνει Φως; second place Stonnington PS (VIC) with Greece is Light; and third place GOC of NSW Clemton Park Afternoon School (NSW) with Olympic Light Torches.
Secondary school students (years 7-9): First place GOCMV Albert Park (VIC) with Στην Αρχή ήταν το Φως; second place GOCMCV Alphington Friday (VIC) with Θέλεις δε Θέλεις η Ελλάδα Λάμπει; and third place Balwyn HS (VIC) with Παιδί μου να μάθεις Ελληνικά
Secondary school students (years 10-12): First place GOCMV Doncaster (VIC) with Τα Βιβλία Συζητάνε; second place St Spyridon College (VIC) with Hecuba; and third place Center for Hellenic Cultural Studies (TAS) with Ελλάδα Σημαίνει Φως.
Tertiary students: First place RMIT University (VIC) with Greece is Light; and second place Monash University (VIC) with Ελλάδα Σημαίνει Φως.
The event was a collaborative effort between the Antipodes Festival, Greek Festival of Sydney, Education Office of the Consulate General of Greece in Melbourne with the support of the Victorian State Government’s Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
