Are you one of those that nature did not bless with the perfect eyebrows, the full lips, the flirty eye shape? Maybe you are one of those that no matter how much you try, the eyeliner always manages to play tricks against your perfect looks.

The latest make-up craze called permanent make-up can fix all your image problems. All you need is a tiny bit of courage, about $500 and the will to embrace the notion of permanent beauty. “Cosmetic tattoo” or “permanent make-up”.

Call it what you like it’s “the makeup of the future” says Mary Luxe, a Greek Australian permanent make-up artist who for more than 20 years now has enhanced the natural beauty of many women. She calls permanent make-up a ‘state of the art’ affair. I was fortunate enough to meet Mary some 13 years ago, and daring enough to trust her steady hand to give me the permanent eyeliner back then. No regrets whatsoever.

“The technique involves the application of small amounts of natural pigments into the skin. The results are spectacular and last for at least ten years,” says Mary who these days sees more and more daring women taking up the “tattooed beauty” solution.

“When you apply your make-up it only lasts a few hours. Just imagine if it lasted a few years,” says Mary, adding that the possibilities in terms of colours and achieving the desired shape are endless. “You can go swimming, play sport, go to the hairdresser, and wipe your forehead without the embarrassment of losing the perfectly shaped eyebrows. The shape of someone’s eyes can also be enhanced to create the appearance of larger eyes.

For an anti-ageing effect, the lower lash line can be lifted, making your face look younger. Additional shadowing of colour can be added for a soft natural line. Cosmetic tattooing can also be used for your lips. It reduces the appearance of fine lines around them. It restores fullness, youthfulness and definition. Symmetry can be restored, shape can be modified. You can get natural results with soft tones, or a more ‘made up’ look adds Mary, a master in the game of cosmetic make-up. Be careful though. Since permanent make up stays on your skin for more than ten years it has to be performed by a skilful hand. If you decide to look a million dollars and to endure the mild pain for at least 10-15 minutes when it is applied, you must spend some considerable time doing your own market research to find the perfect practitioner.

“You have to be very careful. The case is that in the last five years the whole concept has picked up and a lot of women prefer the permanent make-up solution, but there are a lot of unskilled practitioners out there” Mary says. “Cheaper does not mean better” she adds. Give it a thought.
