The local quaterly Mildura magazine, The Dura, is back for its second issue. Released late September, the new issue focuses on the aeronautical background of Mildura, taking off from their railway-inspired first issue.
The Greek Australian team – editor-in-chief Harry Rekas, ad man Brendan Nasoufis and Brains trustee Dimitri Nickas – have worked tirelessly to bring out the new edition, tweaking things here and there. The locals are front and centre this time around, with stories like “Mr Mildura” tracking the unheard story of local identity Reg Etherington and his optics industry, and Patricia Edgar and her influence in Australian children’s television. The issue also uses the most of its size by capturing great photostories, including the story “Carnelevare”, about the local Italian tradition of preparing meat by hand for the year. The magazine is aimed to tell local stories through long form journalism, while still providing social criticism with a local twist.
The issue is $5 and can be bought in newsagents in Mildura and select few around the outer area of the town.
