The Girls in Grey is a theatre play set within the vast landscape of WWI.
Three Australian nurses leave for the front to prove their worth and find adventure. There they experience the tragedy of a war that changes the world.
As every WWI history lesson includes an insight into a difficult lives of soldiers – but rarely is there a mention of Australian nurses – actresses Carolyn Bock and Helen Hopkins decided to bring the story, woven from eyewitness accounts, to the stage.
They co-wrote The Girls in Grey, a play highlighting the difficulties Australian nurses went through during the war. Both Hopkins and Bock – who we watched in Neighbours, Winners and Losers and City Homicide – act in the play.
Lauded by historians as deeply authentic and moving, this inspirational work brings the voices of the nurses into the world of theatre.
The Girls in Grey will be staged next Tuesday 23 April, at the Knox Community Arts Centre in Bayswater. For bookings, contact 03 9729 7287 or visit www.knox.vic.gov.au/theatretix.
