Christos Tsiolkas, The Untold Story is a first comprehensive look into the work and turbulent early life of award-winning Greek Australian author Christos Tsiolkas, best known for his bestselling novel The Slap, published in 2008. From an early age, Tsiolkas obtained an imaginative and curious character: “As a child I used to spend hours in the garden and I would create stories out of different universes and different worlds.”
For the first time, he shares publicly his life story and opinions, discussing in depth his journey from a fraught young writer to a universally recognised author, his association with drugs and his difficult school life, sharing his insight on several themes – including literature and criticism, identity, the state of humanity, decadence, materialism, spirituality, ethics and racism, animal liberation, religion and death – and putting to rest the omnipresent question ‘What is the story behind Christos Tsiolkas?’.
Tsiolkas’ values and beliefs are expressed: “What is most important to me in life is to try, every day, to become a better writer and a better person.”
He also reveals the secrets behind his four controversial novels. This is imperative reading for all fans who are interested in knowing the story behind the stories.
