Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis announced on Thursday that the new social security database known as Ariadne will start operating from the new year. The new database will be used to collect data on status changes from four different sources and not just notaries, as previously planned.

A meeting chaired by Vroutsis on Thursday examined the progress of the interconnection of the network’s sources. Ariadne will be launched on January 1, 2013, and is expected to be fully operational as of March 1.

Transitions and status changes will be made known to social security funds by the following sources, depending on the cause: births and deaths from registry offices, marriages from the Finance Ministry, cohabitation agreements from notaries and divorces from the courts.

The new system should mean no further census of pensioners will ever be required again, after the deadline for the registering of pensions to widows and unmarried daughters by their recipients expires on February 28, 2013.
