If you’re of the view that personal entertainment should be personal, then Sony’s new Personal 3D Viewer may be the go for you. The snappily titled HMZ-T1 features two OLED panels with 720p resolution.

This, according to Sony, allows the system to provide cinema-sized viewing in a tiny package, while OLED technology should ensure that the owner enjoys deep blacks and rich colour reproduction. Having two separate screens – one for each eye – enables 3D playback with (it’s claimed) no crosstalk. A shade plate on the viewer’s underside is designed to block out ambient light, and the unit’s integrated headphones deliver a virtual 5.1-channel sound experience.

The head unit that’s worn by the user weighs around 420g, and is connected via a 3.5m cable to a processing unit and a single HDMI input. One hundred HMZ-T1’s are available for pre-order as of yesterday, with regular shipments arriving in the land of free beaches, ice-cold beer and cricket-filled summers in mid to late March.
