One of the biggest products to launch at CES last month was Google TV.

The search engine giant has cobbled together a pay-as-you-go IP TV service which will surely create sleepless nights for the cable TV operators globally.

Running on the Android 4.0 operating system, Google TV is an IP set-top box solution which connects to your home broadband network and allows you to search and buy movies and television programs on demand. You only pay for what you consume, meaning you don’t need to worry about those dreaded monthly Pay TV subscription charges.

The Mountain View company is not bothering with the hardware – they provide the platform which handles all the content management, billing, and distribution. Dozens of vendors from all over Asia were showcasing their Google TV solution at CES, with the big boys including Marvell demonstrating the power of the solution.

No news on when the service will hit our shores, but it will surely be a massive hit with the Gen Y “I want it now” posse.
