The buzz is high around Indian-Greek relations for the future of Bollywood cinema in Greece after producers from the Bollywood industry expressed “great interest” for filming in Greece.
The positive sentiments follow the Greek National Tourism Organisation’s (GNTO) participation in Travel Mart, considered the largest and most international gathering of travel trade buyers and professionals in Mumbai, India.
This was the second year the GNTO attended in the hopes of attracting the attention of Bollywood productions to Greece.
“India is a country of great interest to Greece as the people of both countries have deep cultural roots and shared historical references,” the GNTO said in an announcement, reported by Greek City Times.
India is said to already film footage in Greece for both music video clips and popular Indian movies including the 2017 film Die Tomorrow featuring former Miss India Kashmera Shah which was filmed in Kavala, Northern Greece.
According to the Indo-Hellenic Society for Culture and Development (ISHCD), a clip of the song Swag Se Swagat from the movie Tiger Zind Hai which was filmed in Naxos last year, surpassed 245 million viewers on YouTube.
This is the second year that the GNTO has participated in India’s largest tourist exhibition.
Outbound Travel Mart and is said to be “within the framework of the national tourism policy for the global promotion of Greece as a top destination for 365 days a year, as well as the attraction of Indian cinema productions,” IHSCD said.
