The Hawthorn Spartans played their first practice match last Saturday against the Skye Bomber’s Thirds from the Southern Football League. A number of Spartan players made their debut on the day and acquitted themselves very well along with the regular squad running out winners by 61 points.

The Spartans, very good up forward, were supported by their solid backline which applied great defensive pressure, limiting the Bombers attack to only two goals for the day. Final scores were Spartans 11.11.77 to Skye Bombers 2.4.16. Goals: Korlos 2, Terezakis 2, Katsanevakis 2, Dellaportas, Elijah, Georgiou and Tsapepas. Best Players: Dellaportas, Farah, Rieve, Koziaris, Korlos, Tsapepas and Katsanevakis.
The emphatic preseason win puts the Spartans in good stead for the second practice match against the Fitzroy Reds played today from1.00pm at the Ramsden Street Reserve in Clifton Hill.
