For those football fans who’ve ever wondered what it would be like to visit the famed Bernabau stadium in Spain, home of the great Real Madrid football club, the club is offering that experience through a world-wide touring exhibition to be launched in Melbourne in June.

The exhibition will cover 14 cities over five years. ‘The Real Madrid World of Football Experience’ is described as a state-of-the-art digital and physical interactive football experience.

The exhibition will be housed in a 1500 square metre travelling pavilion inspired by Madrid’s Bernabau Stadium, to be situated at the Melbourne Museum Plaza in the Exhibition Gardens precinct. It will feature four immersive and interactive zones including an area covering the club’s proud history of successful teams, star players and major trophies.

A second zone features a 360 degrees Cinematic Zone which will simulate match-day experience at the Bernabau through the ages. A third Zone is the ‘Come Play’ interactive zone which includes a ‘Test your Skills area, and finally a Merchandize Zone where visitors have the opportunity to get a photo taken with Real Madrid players through Green Screen technology.

Two of Real Madrid’s famous former players, the Brazilian World Cup winning striker Ronaldo ( dubbed El Fenomeno) and Real Madrid forward Emilio Butragueno ( The Vulture) flew into Melbourne this week, to announce the touring exhibition.

“Technology is going to help us provide our fans with an almost real experience,” Real Madrid’s Director of Institutional Relations, Butragueno speaking to FourFourTwo said of the exhibition.

“Our stadium is one of the temples of football. We’re talking about 80,000 people, but I’m sure in the future we can provide and offer our fans all over the world (the opportunity) to feel what a spectator feels at our stadium. That’s why technology is going to help us go closer and provide better experiences to our fans.”

“What we want to do is build bridges with our fans. For many of them, most of them, Spain is very far from Australia and it’s almost impossible to go there. Bringing our Real Madrid spirit here is really important for us,” he added.

“Our summer tours had that purpose to be close to our fans and this is another opportunity to do it, a touring exhibition which is going to bring trophies and memorabilia. They’re going to travel to Santiago Bernabeu, it’s going to be fantastic.”

The club and the Victorian Government which has helped bring the exhibition to Melbourne, will be hoping no doubt that many of the bumper crowds that attended Real Madrid’s tour matches at the MCG against Manchester City and Roma in 2015, will attend the exhibition beginning in June.

“We’re honoured Real Madrid has chosen Melbourne to make its world premiere of the Real Madrid World of Football Experience in June,” Victoria’s Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren said in a media release.

“This special exhibition will celebrate the decorated and iconic history of this proud Spanish club and give Victorians an exclusive look behind the scenes “With football fever and the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, this event will attract visitors from across the country – supporting jobs and boosting our major events calendar,” the release concluded.

Real Madrid World of Football Experience will be open from 10 June at the Melbourne Museum Plaza. For more information visit RealMadridWOF.com.
