Local Football clubs looking to improve their facilities and infrastructure have received a major funding opportunity, with the Victorian State Government’s announcement this week, that it will inject $ 2.5 million into a World Game Facilities (WGF) fund.

The WGF Fund is a State Government funding program aimed at supporting local metropolitan and regional clubs to upgrade existing facilities or develop new facilities. Clubs can apply for grants of up to $ 250,000 for football projects such as outdoor sports lighting, pitch redevelopments, synthetic pitch developments and unisex accessible change rooms.

The Minister for Sport, Mr Joh Eren, made the announcement on Monday alongside the member for Macedon, the Hon. Mary-Anne Thomas at the Kyneton District Soccer Club.

He said “Victorians love their football – and this new fund will go a long way to making our grassroots clubs and communities stronger and more competitive.”

“With the World Cup around the corner, we want our clubs to be ready for the next wave of Victorian recruits who sign up to play after watching Australia shine on the world stage.”

Football Federation Victoria President Kimon Taliodoros welcomed the announcement of the government funding calling it, “a vindication of the federation’s bold vision to invest in, and focus on the development of clubs.”

He added “FFV is focused on aligning with Government at all levels to unlock opportunity, resources and investment for our community clubs for the benefit of grassroots football.”

“The World Game Facilities Fund shows that FFV’s strategy is being backed by the State Government and leading to exciting investment to enhance and improve the beautiful game.”

Clubs interested in applying for the funding can find out more information on sport.vic.gov.au.

Applications are now open but will close by 30th May 2018.

FFV Club Development officers will also be available to support clubs and enhance their applications for the WGF Funds.
