Panathinaikos players are on strike over unpaid wages.

The protest commenced on Monday and concerns wages from December 2017, along with all payments from 2018 so far. The players have reportedly told club president Vasilis Konstantinou that they will not be returning to training unless they are paid their December instalment at the very least.

Meanwhile the club has said players will be receiving their December payment on Thursday, reports BBC Sport, with Sunday’s Super League game against Atromitos expected to go ahead.

Currently 9th in the league, last week the Greek Super League gave Panathinaikos a three-point penalty for failing to pay off their debts to former German defender Jens Wemmer, owing him €498,322 in unpaid wages.

The Athens-based club has been experiencing financial hardship since it was abandoned at the start of the season by Giannis Alafouzos.
