Xenia is the ancient Greek concept of hospitality, the generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home and/or associates of the person bestowing guest-friendship.

On that basis, Xenia Food Store opened its doors in December 2017 ten years after its Greek Australian owners John and Susie celebrated opening their popular restaurant Philhellene in Moonee Ponds.

Xenia is a little sister of Philhellene and a little bit casual with an emphasis on high quality seasonal produce to eat in or take home offering staple Hellenic treats the likes of frappe or Greek coffee, to the famous loukoumades, baklava and other delicious desserts.

Xenia is open for breakfast, lunch or dinner but it is dedicated to promoting the least known yet main nature of Greek cuisine. The Food Store specialises in vegan and vegetarian dished, however it still features meat, dairy and seafood based dishes on the menu. Xenia’s deli is also stocked with plenty of seasonal salads every day.

The restaurant has decided to hold vegan feasts and dinners every Tuesday and Wednesday, so don’t worry if you’ve missed their Anzac Day Greek treats event. There will be more delicacies to go round as early as next Tuesday.

The shop is open for vegan and vegetarian meals all day long, however, bookings are essential for dinner.

Catering is a specialty for the Xenia Food Store team and their warm, welcoming space is perfect for private functions.

Some of their best sellers: Home made spanakopita, stuffed zucchini flowers, yemista (stuffed vegetables), meat and vegetarian moussaka. For their loyal vegan community Xenia have added vegan marinated fetta on the menu that actually tastes like the real thing.
