Mother’s Day High Tea is always a special occasion at Alphington Grammar School, and this year was no exception. Close to 300 guests gathered to celebrate all that Mother’s Day encompasses and to help raise funds for those in need, at the Andrianakos Centre that was transformed for the event, showcasing the best of Asian and Hellenic delicacies for all to enjoy.

Funds raised from this function will go to support Very Special Kids an organisation that cares for children with life-threatening conditions by providing paediatric advice, a children’s hospice and, professional support services to families from diagnosis to recovery, palliative care or bereavement; Very Special Kids supports about 950 families across Victoria.
Professor Marinis Pirpiris, chair of the school council, along with other members of the Greek Community, benefactors, members of the business and banking community, SBS radio, and other media, along with families and friends of the school community all gathered to lend their hand and support this year’s fundraising efforts.

“As a school we are from time to time touched by children and families who are in need of such care,” said Dr Vivianne Nikou. “For those of us who have healthy children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, it is hard to imagine the trauma and difficult time these families go through so I am very grateful to the school community for supporting this year’s fundraiser.”
