A third appeal submitted for the release of the two Greek soldiers being detained in Turkey has been rejected.

The appeal, which was brought before a Turkish court of misdemeanours on Tuesday, was for the release of the soldiers from pre-trial detention.

Lieutenant Angelos Mitretodis and Sergeant Dimitris Kouklatzis were arrested in March of this year after crossing the border from Greece to Turkey accidentally during border control, and have been detained in a high security prison in Edirne for 83 days since.

Turkish media claims that the court maintained the rulings of the first two appeals based on the possibility of the two soldiers disappearing after being released.

The failure of the appeal means that Mitretodis and Kouklatzis will have to stay in custody until the judge sets a date to bring them to trial.
