Following on from the success of the Preston Market’s Big Fat Greek Day in 2017, the event is back, and is set to be bigger and fatter than the last.

Taking place on Sunday 24 June, the day has been designed to be a true cultural experience that covers all bases.

There will be live entertainment along with dancing, including performances by the Manasis School of Greek Dance and Akrites Tou Pontou.

Adding to the atmosphere will be the delicious aromas of Greek pop-up food stalls, including Skewers on the Road and Taki’s Ballls.

Also organised for the day are a number of family friendly events, such as the Preston Market Li’l Olympics.

Since its humble beginnings in 1970, Preston Market has been a multicultural melting pot, with traders and customers coming from a range of backgrounds.

The Big Fat Greek Day is just one in a series of cultural events scheduled to take place this year, in a bid to highlight the area’s diversity as a whole.

“We believe in celebrating the different cultures that we see everyday here at the market,” Preston Market’s marketing coordinator and organiser of the event Aylin Aloski told Neos Kosmos.

“We think it’s important to recognise the different people that come here every day, and this area does have a lot of Greeks. We’d like to ensure that everyone else within the community is able to enjoy their culture as well.”

‘Macedonian’ (FYROM) Day will take place on Sunday 19 August and Italian Day on Sunday 14 October.
