Shipping, tourism and agriculture will be the focus of a bilateral economic relationship between Greece and India in a plan announced during the visit  by India’s President Ram Nath Kovind to Athens, the first Indian president to visit Greece in 11 years.

“(A) wide range of issues has been discussed during (the) President’s visit. Special emphasis is being given to economic issues. We will focus on sectors like shipping, tourism and agriculture to strengthen our economic relations,” MEA Joint Secretary (Central Europe) Subrata Bhattacharjee said on Monday, the Business Standard  reports.

India’s Ambassador to Greece, Shamma Jain, said that as Greece continues its economic recovery, it is looking to other nations who can invest in Greece..

“Greece has worked in fields of processing, shipping, food, and tech (which) has created employment opportunities in the country,” President Kovind said.

The Indian leader stressed India’s status as the world’s fastest-growing economy and its third largest market. He mentioned India’s initiative to grow the solar energy industry in its recently formed International Solar Alliance (ISA) as an example of its ambitions.
