Athens Airport took to Twitter to share some long awaited and exciting news that will see Chicago directly connected to Athens for the first time.

American Airlines announced on Wednesday it is adding a new direct flight between Chicago and Athens as of 2019.

The seasonal service will be operated from May 3 to October 3 in next year charting Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which will add an extra 70,000 new seats.

This is the company’s second direct route to Greece, after the Philadelphia-Athens service.

This news follows Greece’s exit from the memorandum era and the whooping increase of profit recorded at the Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos.

The North America market (United States and Canada) is recording a steady rise, with passenger arrivals posting a 40 percent rise in the first seven months of the year.
