Vassilis Pliatsikas and Tasos Kyriakos have decided to continue their career abroad, making them the most recent Greek players set to play their trade abroad.

AEK’s Pliatsikas will make a dream move to Bundesliga as he will be joining Schalke, one of Germany’s top clubs.

The under-21 international midfielder has agreed to stay with the Gelsenkirchen club for a four-year contract, while AEK will get between 300,000 and 400,000 euros for the deal.

Earlier reports had linked Pliatsikas with Eintracht Frankfurt, a club which has Yiannis Amanatidis and Nikos Liberopoulos on its roster.

Kyriakos has added to his name to the long list of Greece-born players who are moving to Omonia Nicosia.

The former Aris Thessaloniki player was a free agent after leaving Larissa and has reached an agreement with the club that has former Olympiakos boss Takis Lemonis on the bench.

Meanwhile Dynamo Zagreb presented on Tuesday their new signing, Greek striker Dimitris Papadopoulos.

After spending six months at Lecce in Italy, the former Panathinaikos striker has decided to join the Croatian champions who might come up against Olympiakos in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League this August.

Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos are celebrating the capture of Costas Katsouranis and Sebastian Leto, which NKEE reported last week.

The Athenian giants announced on their website that Katsouranis has signed a four-year contract after being bought from Benfica (a deal which saw his former Greek club AEK make approximately 900,000 euros).

The greens also announced that Leto, who was acquired from Liverpool, signed a massive five-year contract.

The two players have a past in Panathinaikos’s major local rivals, as Katsouranis spent four years at AEK before going to Benfica in 2006, while Leto spent the last season on loan to Olympiakos from Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Panathinaikos’ South African midfielder Bryce Moon is in trouble with the law in South Africa after allegedly knocking down a woman who later died.

Moon was apparently returning from a party which was held in celebration of the national side’s appearance in the Confederations Cup, which ended last Sunday.

Moon, was reportedly driving back from the party organised by a team mate, after South Africa had lost 3-2 to Spain in the third/fourth place play-off in the friendly tournament.

Moon allegedly knocked over Mavis Ncube, 25, a domestic worker in Johannesburg, who was turned away by two hospitals before succumbing to multiple head and body injuries.

The midfielder sustained minor head injuries but was discharged from hospital and returned home.

Police are waiting for the results of blood tests after some witnesses told reporters that the three men in the car smelled of alcohol.

The 23-year-old had again this week been linked to a move to West Ham United in the Premier League.

PAOK

PAOK have continued the strengthening of their squad with the capture of Lucio Filomeno from Asteras Tripolis and the permanent signing of Olivier Sorlin from French side Rennes.

Filomeno arrives on a two-year deal after spending two years in the Peloponnese with Asteras where he had impressed with his attacking prowess.

The 29-year-old has a wealth of experience during a career that has taken him from his native Argentina to Italy with Udinese and Inter Milan and South Korea and Mexico.

“PAOK is a big team and wants to win in all competitions,” said Filomeno, who tempered expectations that he could make a difference at the Thessaloniki club on his own.

“We all have to work hard to achieve our targets.” Filomeno said that he had also been approached by Olympiakos and Panathinaikos.

PAOK also announced that they have signed 30-year-old French midfielder Olivier Sorlin on a permanent deal.

The former Stade Rennais player joined PAOK on loan in January but has now signed a two-year deal.

Iraklis

Iraklis have signed Argentine midfielder Matias Lequi, the former Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo player, on a one-year contract.

Iraklis have reportedly offered him 300,000 euros, outbidding the Mexican clubs that had wanted to sign him.

Lequi has also played for Rosario Central, River Plate and Lazio.

Iraklis also announced the addition of Romanian center forward Victoras Jakob to their roster for the next two years.

“It is particularly pleasant that I will be in the same team once again with Nicolar Dica and have Oleg Protasov as my manager,” said Jakob after signing his contract.

2009-2010 Greek Super League draw

The draw for the 2009 – 2010 Greek Super League took place last week with an intruiging draw that will see an Athenian derby to open the season.

AEK will host Olympiakos at OAKA on what is sure to be a full house in Athens on August 22.

Panathinaikos will be away to the Cretan side Ergotelis
