It’s been almost two months since wildfires ravaged eastern Attica in July.

But the wretched scenes of the horrific event that took the lives of 99 people to date and burned homes to the ground, are still fresh in restaurateur John Rerakis’ mind.

The owner of Philhellene and Xenia Food Store was in Greece when the deadly fires took place, and now back in Melbourne, he is committed to showing his support to the victims.

On Sunday, Mr Rerakis is hosting a special lunch at Philhellene in Moonee Ponds with all proceeds to be donated to the cause through the Greek Community of Melbourne’s fundraising initiative.

Kicking off at 1.00 pm, all food and alcohol will be offered at the restaurant’s own expense, while talented local band Omados has offered to perform and entertain patrons on the day.

“The fires may be extinguished, but help is still needed,” said Mr Rerakis on Facebook.

The fundraiser will take place on Sunday 23 August at Philhellene (551-553 Mount Alexander Rd, Moonee Ponds, VIC) from 1.00 pm. Entry $60.00 per person, includes food and alcohol.
