A 47-year-old man from Cyprus was arrested on Sunday at Sydney International Airport, after the Australian Border Force (ABF) allegedly found four kilograms of ice hidden in the lining of his suitcase.

According to some reports, the alleged smuggler is Turkish Cypriot; he arrived in Sydney from Doha, Qatar.

The ABF officers were urged to inspect his suitcase, after allegedly finding some inconsistencies in the x-ray scan; using an electric drill, they opened a hole on the suitcase’s plastic surface and found an amount of a ‘crystalline substance’ hidden underneath.

“The substance was subsequently tested and gave positive indication for ice,” an ABF statement said.

According to a Daily Mail report, the man appeared in Central Local Court on Monday; he is facing charges of importing $3.5 million worth of methamphetamine. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 5 December.
